Q38. What is tutorial Based Education? Does any other university have such a teaching strategy?
Tutorial Based Education accumulates all of the good features extracted from both the traditional education system and the latest problem based learning (PBL) to ensure the current direction of Outcome Based Education (OBE). In this system, for a 3:00 CH course, there is a 2 (two) hours lecture class and then a 2 (two) hours tutorial class on the same topic on another day. In the lecture class, the teacher discusses the theoretical aspects on a particular topic. A tutorial class has two parts: discussion on lecture class and solving real life problems. In the first part of a tutorial class, the teacher provides students a problem set that covers all the key points discussed in the previous lecture and the students solves the problems individually and through group discussion. During the individual problem solving time, the teacher walks-around within the class and assist the students for solving the problems. Then the teacher forms a small group comprising of 2 or more students to encourage them to learn through group studies in problem solving. The teacher then gives some real life problems based on the lecture and problem set to the students and assists them for solving those inside the classroom. By following these strategies, the students acquires skills, not only knowledge, and be able learn solving the real-life challenges to obtain the objectives of OBE. Canadian University of Bangladesh is the first university that started such a classroom based learning strategy in which the students learns both the knowledge and the skills inside the classrooms to fulfill our motto of “inspiring applied knowledge”.

Q39. Why did CUB introduce Tutorial Based Education Strategy?
All the students in current world are very talented compared with any time in the past; they have the opportunities to learn by doing and surfing through worldwide websites including Google and YouTube and social media like Facebook, twitter and instagram. Even though parents do not know how much creativity do their children encompass? However, the students are not getting interest in their study when they have to go through the backdated education process derived from the traditional one just by including multimedia projector. They want to create something for making the world wonder; they want to let the entire world to know about their existence. Does it make us astonished, when we find the backbencher students are winning the championship trophy in programming contest? What should be our impression when we find a school or college level student is performing very well and challenges the world-reputed security organizations through their hacking capabilities? Are they the poor students? Why their results are not good? Canadian University of Bangladesh is addressing these new capabilities of todays’ young generation and is going to provide both the knowledge and the skills at the deserving level of the talented students in the ICT era for converting them into the real emerging citizens of the country for today and for the future. That’s why, the university has started tutorial based education.
